Patcay.com – Google recently terminated its employment relationship with 28 of its employees due to their protests against the company’s involvement in cooperation with Israel. These employees staged sit-ins at two company offices as a form of protest, leading to their dismissal.
The terminations came to light through an internal company memo after 9 employees in New York and California were previously disbanded and arrested for similar protests on Tuesday. Those fired had opposed Google’s involvement in a project called Nimbus, which is a $1.2 billion cloud contract with the government of Israel, including Amazon.
Some of them even occupied the office of Google Cloud CEO, Thomas Kurian, before being forcibly removed by law enforcement. Previously, Google had also fired several employees for protesting this contract during a company presentation in Israel.

In a memo distributed to all employees on Wednesday, Chris Rackow, Google’s global security chief, emphasized that such behavior is unacceptable in the company’s work environment and will be taken seriously. He also stated that the company will take further steps if necessary.

“The majority of our employees do the right thing. If you are one of the few tempted to think that we will overlook behavior that violates our policies, think again.”

“The company is handling this very seriously, and we will continue to enforce our longstanding policies to take action against disruptive behavior, up to and including termination of employment,” he continued.
The group ‘No Tech for Apartheid’, which spearheaded the protest, sees this dismissal as a blatant act of retaliation. In their statement, the group emphasizes that employees have the right to peacefully protest working conditions, and this dismissal is an unfair form of retaliation.
Previously, the group had accused that the Project Nimbus contract allows American company’s cloud technology, including artificial intelligence (AI), to be used for military purposes. They view the use of this technology for surveillance as part of Israel’s occupation in the Palestinian territories.
