The fifth largest Chinese technology company is seeking to diversify into the electric vehicle industry, seeing stagnation in demand in the smartphone market, a strategic move first announced in 2021.
In addition to Xiaomi, other Chinese technology companies such as Huawei and Baidu have also partnered with car manufacturers to develop electric vehicles.
Xiaomi has announced that deliveries of the Xiaomi SU7 will begin this month or in March 2024. With this move, Xiaomi will enter the global car market at full strength amidst fierce price competition.
The company has also affirmed that they have 59 dealers in 29 cities across China, demonstrating their commitment to supporting the distribution of these electric cars.
With all the efforts of launching and delivering the Xiaomi SU7, the company’s stock price has strengthened by 7 percent.
Despite weakening domestic demand, electric vehicle sales in China continue to rise, reaching an 18 percent increase in January-February, indicating a large market potential.
The design of the Xiaomi SU7 not only incorporates elements from European sedans but also draws inspiration from competitors like Tesla. Designed by Li Tianyuan, who has experience at BMW, the Xiaomi SU7 features an aerodynamically shaped body with a CoD value of 0.195 Cd, making it the best in its class.
