Patcay.com – Instagram is experimenting with a new feature that introduces unskippable ads, known as ‘Ad Breaks,’ to a select group of users. These brief ads, lasting between 3 to 5 seconds, appear as users scroll through their feeds.
Meta, Instagram’s parent company, has not formally announced this feature, but some users have reported encountering these ads.
When users click on the information button for Ad Breaks, the description reveals, “Ad breaks are a new way of seeing ads on Instagram. Sometimes you may need to view an ad before you can keep browsing.”

This has sparked frustration among many users, some of whom are threatening to leave the platform if these changes become permanent.
Meta appears to be testing user reactions to these unskippable ads before potentially implementing them on a wider scale.
This strategy is reminiscent of YouTube’s approach, where free-tier users encounter unskippable ads, which can be bypassed by subscribing to YouTube Premium.
It remains to be seen if Meta will offer a similar ad-free subscription option.
