Patcay.com – Meta is reported to have ceased the operations of its Responsible AI (RAI) team to shift its focus towards the development of artificial intelligence.
Most RAI team members will transition to the generative artificial intelligence product development team at Meta, while others will concentrate on the company’s AI infrastructure.
Although Meta has consistently emphasized its commitment to responsible AI development, this move signifies a significant shift in the company’s strategy.
Jon Carvill from Meta stated that the company will continue to invest in the development of safe and responsible AI.

“Even though the RAI team is disbanded, its members are expected to continue supporting Meta’s cross-functional efforts related to the development and implementation of responsible artificial intelligence,” said Carvill.
Previously, the RAI team was responsible for identifying issues in Meta’s AI training methods, including a lack of diversity in the data used to train the company’s models.
RAI also played a role in creating automatic moderation features on the Facebook platform, improving contextual post translations, fixing AI sticker bugs on WhatsApp, and resolving various other AI issues within Meta.

Despite playing a crucial role, the team underwent restructuring earlier this year, including job terminations that led to the loss of cohesion within the RAI team.
This move aligns with the global trend where technology companies and governments are striving to regulate and establish guidelines for the development of artificial intelligence. Governments, such as the United States and the European Union, are actively seeking solutions to address challenges and risks associated with AI technology development.
