Patcay.com – Nintendo has finally announced exciting news about the second generation of their Switch consoles. Nintendo’s President, Shuntaro Furukawa, officially confirmed that they will soon be releasing the successor to the Nintendo Switch later this year. This valuable information was conveyed through a unique medium, X (formerly Twitter), on Tuesday (7/5).
“From my perspective, Furukawa, as President of Nintendo, we will soon unveil the successor to the Nintendo Switch within this fiscal year. It’s been almost a decade since the initial announcement of the existence of the Nintendo Switch in March 2015,” stated Furukawa in his tweet.
Furukawa stated that they will be hosting a Nintendo Direct event next month. This is an annual event typically held by Nintendo to showcase a variety of games.

Various rumors have circulated regarding the possible launch of the next generation Nintendo Switch in this event. However, Furukawa emphasized that there will be no announcement regarding the successor to the Nintendo Switch during the Nintendo Direct event.
“We will be hosting a Nintendo Direct this June to discuss various Nintendo Switch software releases for the latter half of 2024, however, it should be noted that there will be no discussion regarding the successor to the Nintendo Switch during that presentation,” clarified Furukawa.
This information comes amidst declining sales for Nintendo recently. Reuters reported that the company projects sales of 13.5 million Switch units for this fiscal year, down from sales of 15.7 million units in the previous year.
Nintendo has been renowned for its ability to innovate in the console and gaming world, and the Switch has been one of their most successful products. When launched in 2017, the product made waves primarily due to its portability.

Amidst stiff competition from its main competitors such as Playstation and Xbox, which continue to develop stationary consoles with increasingly sophisticated graphics and processing power, Nintendo chose a different path.
The Switch can be used as a home console connected to a television, and it can also be easily carried while on the go.
Although its graphical performance may not be as strong as its counterparts from Sony and Microsoft, consumers do not mind due to the abundance of enjoyable games that are often family-friendly.
Over the past seven years, not much has changed in the development of the Switch, with three different models currently available.
There’s the Nintendo Switch OLED, which features a rich and immersive screen; the standard Nintendo Switch with a proven hybrid design; and the Nintendo Switch Lite, which is lighter and smaller for gamers who frequently travel.
